How to Stay Motivated During COVID-19

Staying motivated during the COVID-19 pandemic can be rather difficult after months of isolation. Whether you are a student, a person working at home, an entrepreneur, or someone just looking for a burst of dopamine, we compiled a list of tips to keep you motivated.

1. Write down your goals.

Writing down your goals helps you re-discover and maintain direction. Using SMART goals (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-based) can also help you further reinforce the goal in the back of your mind. When you focus on accomplishing smaller goals day-by-day, you will start to build up a feeling of momentum and increased motivation to keep going and accomplish more.

2. Focus more on yourself.

It’s amazing what 7 to 8 hours of sleep combined with a well balanced nutritional balanced diet can do for your mental and physical health. Staying active is essential for boosting confidence, productivity, and improves your overall health. By building the habit of some form of exercise every day, no matter for how long, you will find yourself craving physical activity more often. If you have never been to a gym but you are looking to get active, find a gym buddy or two who can show you the ropes.

3. Get out of your comfort zone.

The best things in life happen when you get out of your comfort zone. It allows you to experience new things, meet new people, and learn more about yourself. When you seek discomfort, it develops your inner strength. You will become less susceptible to saying “no” when trying something new. It also helps build confidence. By facing our fears and taking risks we develop our confidence over time. This allows us to live a more meaningful life.

4. Make your bed every morning.

When you make your bed the first thing after you wake up, you have already completed your first task for the day. By creating this habit, you are proactively becoming more productive each day. In addition, it lowers your stress and improves your mood. You spend roughly one third of your life in your bedroom, and if you the appearance can affect your mood and productivity. It can be hard to feel motivated to do anything during the day if you are surrounded by disorganization.

5. Stay actively social.

Staying distant from one another is a challenging task during a pandemic and may have a negative effect on how proactive people are. Although it may be hard to not go out and see people as much as we once did, technology can be a useful tool in re-kindling old friendships via Zoom, FaceTime, or a simple call can always boost one’s mood. By picking up new hobbies and interests, such as golfing or basketball, you can play with friends and meet new people. Even online gaming can connect you with new and old friends alike. With concerts being non-existent, virtual concerts are appearing like never before. Although it may not be the same experience, attending them with friends could still make for a cool story :)
